TwinSpires and the United Soccer League have entered into a sponsorship agreement.
The United Soccer League playoffs have arrived, and a sports betting operator from Arizona has been announced as the primary sponsor for the event.
TwinSpires Sportsbook, based in Louisville, has partnered with USL Championship and USL League One to enhance excitement for their upcoming playoffs beginning this week.
TwinSpires Sportsbook and USL have joined forces to introduce a new free-to-play “pick-’em” game on the USL mobile app. Fans can win prizes by making accurate predictions in playoff contests. The partnership was revealed in a press release on Monday.
TwinSpires will provide unique casino promotions to users in certain states where online sports betting is offered, such as Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
“We are excited to announce our partnership with TwinSpires for the 2021 playoffs,” said Josh Keller, USL Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships. “As the sports gaming industry in the United States continues to grow, this collaboration will enhance fan engagement by offering exciting contests and promotions during the most thrilling phase of the USL Championship and League One seasons.”
Effect on USL Teams in Arizona
The partnership between TwinSpires Sportsbook and USL is particularly interesting due to the unconventional method by which Arizona issued licenses for sports betting apps.
Phoenix Rising, a USL team, was not awarded a sports betting license by the Arizona Department of Gaming, while 10 other professional sports organizations were granted licenses.
On Monday, the franchise chose not to comment on the USL’s partnership with TwinSpires or the potential of acquiring a betting license in the future.
Phoenix Rising seems poised to make a formidable push for the playoffs as they currently sit in the top seed in the USL Championship playoffs for the Western Conference. This comes after their impressive showing in last year’s championship match.
The Phoenix Rising versus Rio Grande Valley FC match is set to take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Arizona time in the conference quarterfinals. The winner will move on to play either San Diego Loyal FC or San Antonio FC in the conference semifinals.
FC Tucson will go head-to-head against the Richmond Kickers in the play-in round of the USL League One playoffs at 7 p.m. Arizona time on Saturday. The victor will advance to face Greenville Triumph SC in the semifinals on November 12th.
2021 Performance of Each Team
Phoenix Rising and FC Tucson both had a remarkable regular season.
Rising finished the 2021 season with the second-most wins in the 32-team league (20), while FC Tucson secured their first winning record since entering the USL in 2019.
PRFC has achieved its fifth consecutive winning season, clinching the Western Conference regular season title for the second time in franchise history. This accomplishment was previously achieved in 2019.
FC Tucson clinched the fourth spot in this year’s USL League One Playoffs with a 9-6-4 record in the final stretch of the season.
