Oumar Ballo, a 7-foot center and one of the top big men in the country, recently entered the NCAA transfer portal after spending three successful years in Tucson. During his time there, he earned two first team All-Pac-12 honors.

Hailing from Koulikoro, Mali, he was a highly sought-after five-star player who played his first three college seasons at Gonzaga. He redshirted in 2019-20 before transferring to Tucson to join Tommy Lloyd shortly after Lloyd was hired in 2021.

Ballo, who averaged 12.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, is now a free agent after a successful season with the Wildcats, who made it to the Sweet 16. Despite Ballo leaving, Arizona sportsbooks have the Wildcats listed at +2000 odds to win the national championship next year, tying them for sixth overall.

What is Ballo’s Next Destination?

Many believed that when Ballo first shared his plan to enter the portal, he would follow conventional wisdom and try to return to Gonzaga.

This week, his transfer situation has become clearer as he plans visits to Indiana, Kansas State, and Louisville. Visits to North Carolina and Florida are also in the works. BetMGM Arizona lists North Carolina as the team with the best odds to win the national championship next season at +1600, with Florida following at +5000.
