The journey of Turf Paradise leading up to next week’s opening.

Turf Paradise sought an Arizona betting apps license from the Department of Gaming, but their application was rejected. Subsequently, they filed a complaint in Maricopa County Superior Court in August, but it was ultimately dismissed.

At the end of January, the track received approval for a limited event wagering license. This license allows racetracks or off-track betting locations with Arizona Department of Racing permits to provide in-person sports betting, as long as they are located at least five miles away from tribal gaming establishments, event wagering facilities, or other limited event wagering operators.

Limited licenses were granted to ten facilities, including two of the state’s three horse racing tracks: Arizona Downs Racetrack in Prescott Valley and Turf Paradise.

Two of the remaining eight licensees are off-track betting venues located within Phoenix city limits. Rillito Downs in Tucson, the only racetrack facility without a license, stated they submitted an application to the ADG on yengols.com.

As part of the $10,000 initial license fee, applicants were required to pay a $1,000 application fee. Additionally, there is a $5,000 annual renewal fee.
