What we currently know about sports wagering partnerships in Arizona
This week, we need to decide who will receive one of the 20 available licenses for Arizona sports betting apps.
As of Monday afternoon, the Arizona Department of Gaming has not yet announced the partnerships that were scheduled to be released.
Operators’ Number Growing
Sixteen operators have submitted applications for mobile sports betting licenses in Arizona, and additional applications are anticipated in the near future.
Sports betting will be officially legalized on September 9th, perfectly timed for the Arizona Cardinals’ NFL season opener against the Tennessee Titans on September 12th.
The Cardinals have applied for a license after reaching a sportsbook agreement with BetMGM/Gila River Hotels and Casinos on August 9th.
Additional sports teams in the Valley, such as the Arizona Diamondbacks teaming up with Caesars Entertainment, the Phoenix Suns partnering with FanDuel Sportsbook, and the Phoenix Mercury joining forces with Bally’s, have also finalized sportsbook partnerships.
Additionally, Phoenix Rising, a United Soccer League team, has finalized a deal with a sportsbook operator, as confirmed by team Governor Berke Bakay.
Bakay conveyed appreciation to the Arizona Legislature and Governor Ducey for including soccer fans in discussions regarding sports betting in the state. Phoenix Rising FC, the top professional soccer team in Arizona, has submitted an application for an Event Wagering Operator’s License with the Arizona Department of Gaming in partnership with a leading online sports betting operator. The club is excited to provide soccer fans in Arizona with the opportunity to participate in this exciting new form of entertainment at Casino Arizona.
As per Rich Nairn, Executive Vice President of Communications & Broadcasting for the Arizona Coyotes, the team, as reported by Bet Arizona, is the sole professional sports team in the Valley that has not yet finalized an agreement with an operator.
