Final Arizona Sports Betting Rules Open for Public Comment Beginning Monday
Fact Checked by Young Ruth

From Monday until April 3, individuals who wish to share their thoughts on sports betting in Arizona are welcome to do so.

The Arizona Department of Gaming announced on Friday that they will start accepting public feedback on the finalized regulations for sports betting and daily fantasy sports. The regulations must receive official approval by April 15th.

When HB 2772 was signed into law on April 15, 2021, legalizing sports betting in the state, the ADG was initially given an exemption from certain rulemaking requirements specified in Title 41 of the Arizona Revised Statutes.

The temporary exemption, set to end on April 15, allowed for the swift introduction of mobile sports betting in Arizona. The first bets were placed on betting apps in Arizona on September 9, 2021.

Right now, the ADG is pinpointing certain regulations regarding wagering and DFS that need to be modified, with the intention of making changes before the exemption period ends.

The implications of the ADG announcement for the public

The ADG has increased transparency for operators and customers by making its rulebook accessible to the public, allowing anyone to provide feedback through comments.

The department will unveil the “new draft final rules” for sports wagering and DFS at 9 a.m. on Monday in Arizona time. Feedback from residents will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on April 3.

Assistant Director Aiden Fleming of the ADG mentioned that while Section 7 permits the Department to bypass public comment, they have found that engaging with stakeholders transparently leads to better results and fosters a positive working partnership.
