IGT and Cliff Castle Casino announce Arizona sports betting partnership.
The Yavapai-Apache Nation has teamed up with IGT PlaySports, making them the newest Arizona sportsbook operator to secure a partnership.
IGT has partnered with a tribe from northern Arizona to provide the technology needed for a multi-year sports betting agreement. This partnership will enable the tribe to operate a retail sportsbook at the Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde.
The Yavapai-Apache Nation, as well as other tribes that signed the 2021 gaming compact, are permitted to provide casino sports betting and additional table games on tribal land without requiring a license from the Arizona Department of Gaming. Unfortunately, they were not among the tribes authorized to introduce new Arizona sports betting apps.
What is involved in the partnership between Cliff Castle Casino and IGT?
IGT announced a new partnership on Thursday through a tribal press release, which allows them to use their self-service PlaySports Kiosks at the retail sportsbook complex. This technology from IGT is already in use at 60 gaming venues in 19 states.
Aaron Moss, General Manager of Cliff Castle Casino, stated in a press release that he believes adding sports betting to the casino’s current entertainment options will bring in new customers, enhance guests’ experiences, and help the casino stay competitive in Arizona’s growing sports betting market. Moss also expressed excitement about introducing guests and local sports fans to an IGT-powered sportsbook.
Cliff Castle presents a golden opportunity for IGT PlaySports.
Joe Asher, President of Sports Betting for IGT PlaySports, is excited to announce a partnership with the well-respected tribal organization, Yavapai-Apache. He describes this opportunity as a dream come true.
The Cliff Castle Casino features a 122-room hotel towering six stories high, as well as 650 gaming machines, four restaurants, a 20-lane bowling alley, and a nightclub. The Tribe is planning to extend Arizona sports betting to the broader Prescott-Cottonwood region.
In his statement, Asher conveyed his trust in Cliff Castle Casino’s belief in the reliability and scalability of IGT PlaySports technology, as well as in the expertise of our skilled trading advisory services team to help them maximize their potential. He also mentioned that Arizona’s sports betting market shows promise, and he is happy to see IGT’s longtime customer, Cliff Castle Casino, taking part in this opportunity for growth.
Which tribes in Arizona are still in need of partners?
The Navajo tribe, one of the tribes granted sportsbook licenses in August, has not yet revealed their sportsbook partner.
As of now, the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL are the lone professional sports team in the state that has not yet revealed a sportsbook partner. In August, they were among eight teams that were given a license by the ADG.
By Thursday, 16 of the 18 Arizona-based tribes or sports teams that were initially licensed have revealed sportsbook partnerships.
The Yavapai-Apache and Pascua Yaqui tribes have been granted approval to run retail sportsbooks with Scientific Gaming, but they are required to secure a license from the ADG if they wish to provide mobile sports betting services.
The Pascua Yaqui Tribe unveiled a new retail sportsbook at Casino Del Sol in Tucson on Thursday.
The department has not established a timeline for issuing the final two licenses out of the total of 20. These licenses are specifically designated for professional sports teams.
