Cardinals’ Trey McBride Identified as One of the Most Underrated Tight Ends in the NFL

Cardinals Trey McBride Among Most Undervalued Tight Ends in NFL
Fact Checked by Young Ruth

Trey McBride, the tight end for the Arizona Cardinals, had an impressive sophomore season in 2023-24 with 81 receptions for 825 yards and three touchdowns. This second-round pick from Colorado State showed no signs of a slump.

During his sophomore year as a rookie, the 24-year-old from Colorado impressed, accounting for $1,431,741 of the Cardinals’ salary cap. This translated to an average of $1,548 per yard this season, placing him third among NFL tight ends in terms of dollars per yard. The top two positions were taken by Jake Ferguson of Dallas ($1,375 per yard) and Tanner Hudson of Cincinnati ($1,484 per yard).

Yengols.com utilized ProFootballReference.com to examine the cap hit and receiving yards of every NFL tight end in the 2023-24 season in order to determine McBride’s ranking among the league’s players. Through the calculation of dollars per point share for each player, we were able to pinpoint the top 10 most cost-effective TEs of the season, taking into account salary and yards accumulated across all teams the player was a part of during the season.

Although Arizona sportsbooks provide odds on tight end receiving yards in the Super Bowl, monitoring the blocking abilities of tight ends proves to be a more difficult endeavor. Consequently, this chart does not contain information on blocking.
