Fact Checked by Young Ruth

As they gear up for the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday night, the Arizona Cardinals find themselves in a favorable position with a solid selection of draft picks.

The team earned the 23rd pick in the NFL draft thanks to their impressive 11-6 record in the 2021 regular season and first playoff appearance in five years.

Right now, the Cardinals are in the process of selecting their next star player for the team, and Arizona sports betting enthusiasts are hopeful that this choice will boost their chances of winning the Super Bowl.

BetMGM Arizona has listed the Cardinals with +2000 odds to win Super Bowl LVII, ranking them ninth on the odds board.

Oddsmaker Adam Thompson from Bookies.com has provided a breakdown of the players that Arizona is expected to draft.

Cardinals in Search of Assistance on Offensive and Defensive Lines

The Cardinals were up against a formidable opponent in the Wild Card round in the form of the eventual Super Bowl LVI champions, the Los Angeles Rams, and their standout defensive lineman, Aaron Donald, which made for a challenging game for Arizona.

Thompson believes that Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum (+400) has the highest likelihood of being drafted by the Cardinals, while Boston College guard Zion Johnson (+500) is tied for third on his list.

Choosing an offensive lineman might be viewed as a positive gesture towards quarterback Kyler Murray, who has been embroiled in contract negotiations drama this offseason.

Diaz Uzziah, an NFL Draft analyst at Bookies.com, noted that the Cardinals encountered their toughest obstacle on the offensive line towards the end of the season. During the playoff matchup against the Rams, the interior offensive line had difficulty containing Aaron Donald. Uzziah suggests that the team should prioritize rebuilding the middle of their offensive line in order to rectify this problem.

Other players listed in the Bookies odds for the Cardinals include George Karlaftis from Purdue at +425 and Boye Mafe from Minnesota at +500. Additionally, Trent McDuffie from Washington and Andrew Booth from Clemson are listed with odds of +550 and +600 respectively.

After that, “the field” stands at +500, mirroring Cardinals GM Steve Keim’s unorthodox selections in the last few early rounds.

Mosher warned to keep an eye on the cornerback position for the Cardinals. Although Arizona trusts Byron Murphy, they might require more help on the outside. Trent McDuffie and Kyler Gordon are potential candidates at No. 23, considering the Cardinals’ history with Washington defensive backs such as Murphy and Budda Baker.

In the previous draft, the Cardinals chose linebacker Zaven Collins from the University of Tulsa, continuing their trend of selecting linebackers after picking Isaiah Simmons from Clemson the year before.
