Arizona State’s chances of winning the Pac-12 title have decreased as they head into their off week.

Arizona State University’s dreams of claiming the Pac-12 championship were crushed after facing a loss in the Wasatch foothills last Saturday evening.

Herm Edwards’ team lost 35-21 to Utah after giving up 28 straight points, bringing their season record to 5-2 and conference record to 3-1.

The Sun Devils’ defense, which is known for its strong reputation, gave up 455 yards, causing ASU to be outgained 455-385.

ASU’s current odds for winning the Pac-12 Championship

ASU’s defeat led to a downward shift in their position in the Pac-12 Conference odds race, landing them in a mid-level spot in college football betting at Arizona sportsbooks.

Zak Hill’s offense has made extensive use of a diverse running game, led by Daniels, White, Ngata, and Trayanum. Collectively, they have gained 1,346 yards and scored 19 rushing touchdowns.

Ngata leads the team with an impressive 6.7 yards per carry, while all four players maintain an average of no less than 5 yards per attempt.

ASU’s roster includes four players who have each gained more than 250 receiving yards: tight end Curtis Hodges has 330 yards on 16 catches and a touchdown, wide receiver LV Bunkley-Shelton has 302 yards on 20 catches and 1 TD, Ricky Pearsall has 295 yards on 22 catches and 2 touchdowns, and White has 251 yards on 27 catches and 1 TD.

What ASU’s Future Schedule Appears Like

After the bye week, the Sun Devils will have back-to-back challenging matchups at home against Washington State and USC.

The Cougars, with a 4-3 record this season and a three-game winning streak, have recently defeated Stanford (34-31), Oregon State (31-24), and Cal (21-6). Despite their success, the team made the decision to fire coach Nick Rolovich and several assistant coaches on Monday for failing to comply with the state’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate.

Coach Clay Helton was dismissed earlier this year, and interim coach Donte Williams guided the Trojans to a 2-2 record.

After beating Washington State 45-14, USC went on to lose to Oregon State (45-27) and Utah (42-26). However, they were able to recover with a 37-14 win against Colorado.

After the upcoming games, ASU will visit Washington on November 13th and Oregon State on November 20th. The season will wrap up with the classic Territorial Cup rivalry game against Arizona, who has yet to secure a win, in Tempe.

The Sun Devils are currently 3-1 in the Pac-12, trailing Utah by just half a game with their 3-0 record. Utah’s upcoming schedule includes road games against Oregon State, Stanford, and Arizona, as well as home games against UCLA, No. 10 Oregon, and Colorado.

ASU holds the tiebreak advantage over UCLA for the Pac-12 South title due to their head-to-head victory earlier in the season, with both teams currently at 3-1 in league play.
