Arizona’s sports betting handle decreased in December, but revenue remained consistent.
Arizona sports betting wagers decreased to $572.49 million in December following two months of exceeding the $600 million handle.
The Arizona Department of Gaming wrapped up its 2022 reporting on Friday, while several other states have already published their sports betting revenue reports for February.
In December, the department announced that there was a 7.2% drop in handle compared to November, but revenues and taxes stayed relatively consistent. Arizona betting apps and retail locations generated a total of $36.95 million in revenue, showing only a minor 3.8% decrease from the previous month.
The state gathered $3.695 million in taxes, which was only a 3.9% decrease from the revenue recorded in November for Arizona.

In December, FanDuel surged ahead of DraftKings.
For the fifth time since Arizona sports betting launched in September 2021, DraftKings Sportsbook did not top the state in monthly handle.
In December, FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona led with a handle of $185.4 million, while DraftKings experienced a decrease to $171.93 million compared to the previous month’s over $200 million.
FanDuel’s retail location at the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix boosted its total handle by over $3 million. This marks the first time since May that FanDuel’s retail handle has surpassed $3 million.
BetMGM Sportsbook in Arizona came in third place with a handle of $95.1 million, while Caesars ranked fourth among the state’s 17 operators, bringing in $64.7 million.
Barstool Sportsbook Arizona was the only other operator to surpass $20 million in revenue, hitting $20.19 million.
Six operators did not reach $1 million in handle, with Bally Sportsbook and the Tonto Apache sportsbook powered by TwinSpires falling below $100,000.
Arizona Stays Sixth Nationally
In December, Arizona held onto its sixth place ranking in handle nationally, consistent with the trend observed throughout the year.
New York led the country in December with the highest handle of $1.632 billion, followed by New Jersey ($1.056 billion) and Illinois ($1.028 billion). Nevada ($880.4 million) and Pennsylvania ($754.8 million) also exceeded Arizona in handle.
Despite this, the state is anticipated to experience a decline in figures once the January statistics are made public, as the new market in Ohio has reported over $1 billion in handle for the month.
In December, Arizona helped push the national sports betting handle over $93 billion for the year, resulting in more than $6.5 billion in revenue. December saw a record-breaking nationwide handle of $10.048 billion, marking the second straight month of surpassing the $10 billion mark.
