Arizona State is the team to beat in the 2021 season opener.
New Arizona sports betting apps are predicting that the Arizona State University Sun Devils will have a straightforward opening game.
The start of Arizona sports betting is delayed until September 9th. The Sun Devils will kick off their season on Thursday evening against Southern Utah, a Football Championship Subdivision team, at Sun Devil Stadium.

The event is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network.
BetMGM Arizona and BetRivers Arizona both predict that the Sun Devils are heavily favored by 44.5 points over the Thunderbirds.
Early registration for Arizona sports betting began on August 28 after the state approved 18 sports betting licenses. Sportsbook operators are providing attractive promotions to draw in new bettors during this period.
Arizona is set to debut its NFL betting market just in time for the beginning of the regular season, with the first game scheduled for September 9th. The market is anticipated to be heavily influenced by bets on the Arizona Cardinals, who are slated to play their first game on September 12th against the Tennessee Titans.
Tempe’s Season of Great Expectations
As the Sun Devils enter their fourth year under head coach Herm Edwards in Tempe, they are met with lofty expectations.
During his initial two complete seasons at ASU, Edwards guided the Sun Devils to records of 7-6 and 8-5. The team also achieved a 2-2 record in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, where three games were canceled due to virus-related issues.
Arizona State has the second best odds to win the 2021 Pac-12 championship in the South Division, with +400 odds at Arizona FanDuel and +450 odds at Bet365.
The Sun Devils received six first-place votes in the Pac-12 media preseason poll, but were projected to come in third behind USC and Utah in the division.
The team’s fate will be largely determined by junior quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had a standout season in 2019 with 17 touchdown passes and just two interceptions.
During the summer, Daniels earned spots on the Manning Award and Walter Camp Award preseason watch lists. He is currently tied for ninth place with +3500 odds to win the 2021 Heisman Trophy, as reported by DraftKings Arizona.
Meet the Thunderbirds
The Thunderbirds ended the FCS’ shortened spring season with a record of 1-5, placing them second-to-last among the eight Big Sky Conference teams.
Southern Utah suffered narrow defeats in all five games last season, with losses to Northern Arizona twice (34-33 and 28-20), as well as close games against Idaho State (26-24), Idaho (33-32), and Weber State (19-16).
On March 13, the Thunderbirds won their only game of the spring season with a 34-24 victory over Cal Poly.
Southern Utah has reached the FCS Playoff three times since moving up a level in 1993, with their most recent appearance happening in 2017.
The Thunderbirds were defeated 45-14 by San Jose State University in their season opener on Saturday night.
Quarterback Justin Miller showcased strong offensive leadership by completing 15 out of 29 passes for 117 yards. Running back Karris Davis also contributed with a team-leading 32 yards gained on five carries in the loss.
The head coach of Southern Utah University is Demario Warren, who has a record of 18-25.
Looking Forward
The Arizona State University Sun Devils are scheduled to face UNLV at Sun Devil Stadium on September 11th at 7:30 p.m. It is anticipated that the sports betting market in the state will be up and running by that time.
There is no betting line available for the contest, but historically the Sun Devils have a 0-1 record against the Rebels.
In 2008, the Sun Devils had previously played against both teams, losing the game with a score of 23-20 in Tempe.
