In January, Arizona sportsbooks experienced an increase in handle but a decrease in revenue.
The 17 Arizona sportsbooks kicked off the 2023 fiscal year in January with a strong start, bringing in a total handle of around $591.2 million.
According to the Arizona Department of Gaming, the state’s handle of $591,220,793 ranks fifth among the 17 months recorded. This reflects a 3.3% increase from the previous month and a 4.9% increase from the previous year.
Arizona’s gaming revenue dropped to $28,961,017, with the tax amount decreasing to $2,886,501. This is a decrease from the previous report in December, which showed revenue of $37.3 million and taxes of $3.7 million.
In a statement released by the department, Jaclyn Johnson, the director of the ADG, expressed that the sports betting handle in January signifies a promising start to the second year of wagering in the state.
In the release, Johnson noted that Arizona had a successful start to 2023 in sports betting, with nearly $600 million in wagers placed in January. He looks forward to monitoring the growth of betting activity for the rest of the year.

FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona has once again claimed the top spot among 17 operators in the sports betting report for January, marking the sixth time in 17 months that they have surpassed DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona.
In January, FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona came out on top with a total handle of $195,455,762, while DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona closely followed in second place with $171,428,299.
BetMGM Sportsbook Arizona had a handle of $89,851,549 in January, followed by Caesars Sportsbook Arizona with $59,197,789, Barstool Sportsbook Arizona with $20,409,155, and Desert Diamond with $20,029,144 closely behind.
