Arizona State University’s dreams of a perfect college football season were shattered in the foothills of the Wasatch Range last Saturday.

The Sun Devils suffered their first loss of the season with a 27-17 defeat by the BYU Cougars. This game was ASU’s second since sports betting was legalized in Arizona on Sept. 9.

BYU controlled the game at Lavell Edwards Stadium in Provo, establishing a strong 21-7 lead by halftime and ultimately securing the victory in the last quarter.

The Sun Devils were favored by either 3.5 or 4.5 points, depending on the sportsbook operator, but ultimately lost the road game on Saturday.

A week later, Herm Edwards’ team is facing a 1-2 Colorado Buffaloes squad on their home turf. The Buffaloes have suffered two consecutive losses to Minnesota (30-0) and Texas A&M (10-7). Arizona betting apps are heavily favoring the Sun Devils over the Buffaloes.

The Sun Devils will face off against the Buffaloes at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Arizona time. The game will be televised live on ESPNU for a national audience.

The Sun Devils are heavily favored to win at home.

Several well-known sportsbooks have designated ASU as the clear frontrunner in their Saturday night game against Colorado, with DraftKings Arizona, BetMGM Arizona, and FanDuel Arizona all showing the Sun Devils as a 14 to 14.5-point favorite.

ASU is heavily favored to win with moneyline odds of -675 on DraftKings, -625 on BetMGM, and -750 on FanDuel. The over/under for the game is consistent at 44.5 across all three operators.

Who are the top individuals to keep an eye on in Colorado?

The Buffaloes’ offense has struggled this season, only scoring one offensive touchdown in their last two games.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for quarterback Brendon Lewis and running back Jarek Broussard on the visiting team this Saturday night.

In his first year with the Buffs, Lewis has experienced a blend of successes and setbacks. Across three starts, he has achieved a 55.4% completion rate for 246 yards and a touchdown through the air, while also accumulating 166 yards and a rushing touchdown.

The former three-star recruit hailing from Texas has shown promise in three games, particularly in the team’s 35-7 win against Northern Colorado in the first week. In that game, he threw for 102 yards and a touchdown, completing 10 of 15 passes, and also ran for 44 yards.

Nevertheless, Lewis has faced difficulties in the passing game in the last two games for Colorado. He has only managed to complete 21 out of 41 passes for 144 yards and has been unable to score a touchdown in either game.

However, Broussard has struggled to replicate his remarkable first season in 2020, during which he ran for 895 yards and scored five touchdowns in Colorado’s six-game season. His standout performance was a 301-yard game against Arizona.

Broussard has gained 153 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns this season, with an average of 4.8 yards per carry. This is slightly lower than his average of 5.7 yards per rush in the previous year.

Broussard has demonstrated his talent for punishing the Sun Devils, achieving over 100 yards in four of his nine career starts.

Sun Devils are eager to get back on track.

Arizona State and Colorado have a relatively short history of competition, having only faced each other 11 times since 2006. Of those matches, ASU has come out on top in eight of them.

The two teams last met in Tempe, where Colorado emerged victorious over the then-24th ranked ASU with a final score of 31-24.

The Sun Devils last defeated CU in 2017 with a 41-30 victory at Sun Devil Stadium.

In order for the Sun Devils to win against the Buffs again, junior QB Jayden Daniels must make ball security a top priority.

In the game against BYU, Daniels completed 21 out of 29 passes for 265 yards. Despite his solid performance, he threw two interceptions that proved to be costly. Additionally, he was unable to score a touchdown passing the ball.

The junior struggled to penetrate the Cougars’ defense with his running skills, managing to gain only eight yards on 10 carries.

Rachaad White’s standout performance during Saturday’s game was a highlight for ASU, as he racked up 71 rushing yards and 65 receiving yards on nine catches.

Freshman running back Daniyel Ngata shined in the game against BYU, showcasing an impressive performance by leading the team with 82 rushing yards on eight carries in the loss.

If Ngata and White step up their game against Colorado, giving Daniels more chances to pass, ASU should easily exceed the spread on Saturday.
