Since the move to Arizona, it is rare for the Cardinals to start a season 0-3.

Cardinals 0-3 Starts to a Season are Rare Since Move to Arizona
Fact Checked by Young Ruth

The Arizona Cardinals have had many disappointing seasons since moving to the Valley from St. Louis in 1988.

In the history of the Cardinals, their fans have experienced more losing seasons (23) than playoff appearances (six), resulting in defeat being a more common occurrence than victory. This trend persisted in 2023, as the team squandered second-half leads against Washington and the New York Giants, ultimately losing by narrow margins in both games.

Prior to the Week 3 matchup against Dallas, yengols.com examined the Cardinals’ performance in previous seasons where they started 0-3. The analysis sought to forecast how a third straight loss could affect their Arizona sports betting odds for the rest of the season.

The Dallas Cowboys have seen their odds of winning the Super Bowl improve in the last two weeks. They are now listed at +750, putting them just behind Kansas City and San Francisco who are tied for first at +600. In contrast, the Arizona Cardinals have the worst Super Bowl odds in the NFL at +100000.

Cardinals are aiming for the top pick in the draft.

The Cardinals have had a tough time with losing seasons since they came to Arizona in 1988, but they have seldom started a season with a 0-3 record. Out of the 36 NFL regular seasons they have played in Arizona, the Cardinals have only kicked off six seasons with a 0-3 record, leading to no playoff appearances. A winless start this season would seriously hurt the Cardinals’ playoff hopes.

In 1994, the team turned things around after starting 0-3 to finish with an 8-8 record, their best year-end result after a slow start. However, in 2018 under head coach Steve Wilks, the team had their worst year-end result following an 0-3 start with a disappointing 3-13 record and securing the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Cardinals’ decision resulted in them acquiring All-Pro quarterback Kyler Murray, who is currently recovering from a torn ACL he suffered near the end of last season. Fast forward five years, new head coach Jonathan Gannon is focused on ensuring his team does not face a similar setback in the upcoming season.

The oddsmakers at BetMGM Arizona are not feeling confident about the Cardinals’ chances this weekend, as they have labeled them as 12.5-point underdogs with a +500 moneyline.
