Arizona sportsbooks had a strong performance in the eighth month of the year, with a total handle of $361.008 million and revenue of $27.754 million.

The handle figure increased by 24.3% compared to the previous month, with revenue nearly doubling from the Arizona Department of Gaming’s reported close to $15 million in July.

Arizona saw a significant increase in wagering tax revenue in August, collecting $2.767 million, an 84.5% rise from the $1.5 million reported in July.

Arizona’s first year of sports betting has resulted in $5.4 billion in total wagers, with an average monthly amount of $452.728 million.

The director of the ADG, Ted Vogt, announced in a department press release that the first year of Arizona sports betting apps was a success for operators and customers alike.

Vogt was excited about the strong betting numbers seen in August, which signaled the end of Arizona’s first year of legalized sports betting. With over $5.4 billion in sports wagers placed in the state during this time, it is clear that Arizona’s sports betting industry is off to a promising start.

What was notable in August’s report?

The ADG’s August report highlighted the notable rise in sports betting activity, resulting in increased profits for the state’s operators in comparison to the sluggish summer months.

DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona, headquartered in Boston, surpassed FanDuel Sportsbook in operator handle in August, claiming the top spot for the first time since April.

In August, DraftKings outperformed FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona by earning $129.8 million in revenue, while FanDuel reported $108.7 million for the same month, a difference of $21 million.

After the top two in Arizona, the rankings were as follows: BetMGM with $58.2 million, Caesars Sportsbook with $30.5 million, WynnBET with $7.95 million, Barstool Sportsbook with $7.65 million, Rush Street Interactive with $4.48 million, and Hard Rock Interactive with $4.4 million.

In August, BetMGM Sportsbook Arizona became the third state sportsbook to exceed $1 billion in handle, reaching a total of $1.05 billion following DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel Sportsbook.

In August, BetFred Arizona, Superbook Arizona, and Desert Diamond were among the Arizona sportsbooks that each had a sports betting handle exceeding $1 million. Their respective figures were $2.537 million, $1.937 million, and $1.154 million.

Earlier this week, FuboTV revealed the discontinuation of its Fubo Sportsbook brand and shared that they had a handle of $404,494 for the month of August.

The initial monthly report for August showcased the performance of Arizona’s 10 limited event wagering operators. Together, these licensees took in a total of $330,828 in wagers. Arizona Downs was the standout operator, surpassing $100,000 in handle with a total of $129,138.

Ranking nationally, Arizona Sports Betting’s August performance is impressive.

Arizona ranked sixth in the nation for August’s handle, falling between Pennsylvania’s $363.05 million and Colorado’s $291.1 million.

During the month of August, the states with the highest total revenue were New York at $877.4 million, Illinois at $564.8 million, New Jersey at $546.77 million, and Nevada at $408.87 million.

Arizona led the way, followed by Virginia with $284.67 million, Indiana with $237.99 million, Michigan with $229.79 million, and Tennessee with $205.86 million.
