Arizona’s sports betting handle decreased in April, but remained above $500 million.

The Arizona sports betting market saw a total handle of $512.877 million in April, marking a decrease of more than 25% from the previous month’s record of $690.979 million. Despite this drop, it still exceeded the state’s totals for February.

The Arizona Department of Gaming’s director, Ted Vogt, characterized April’s sports betting revenue report as strong, highlighting the growth potential now that all 18 operators are fully operational.

Vogt is optimistic about the high levels of event wagering in Arizona, noting that over $500 million was wagered in April. He is excited to see how the state’s first year of legal event wagering will conclude in the coming months.

Last week in an interview with yengols.com, Vogt shared his astonishment at the high demand for sports betting in the state.

In April, Arizona saw its highest tax collection of $1.6 million since the introduction of sports betting. The most profitable month for tax revenue was in November, with the state collecting $3.1 million.

Since the legalization of sports betting in Arizona over seven months ago, the state has collected nearly $12 million in taxes. In the month of April alone, operators distributed $12.7 million in free bets and promotional credits.

For the initial five years of sports betting in Arizona, operators are granted a tax exemption on the free bets and promotional credits they provide, capped at 20% of their total wagers for the first two years.

DraftKings continues to dominate in Arizona

DraftKings Sportsbook Arizona has led in generating the highest handle in the state for seven of the first eight months.

The Boston-based sportsbook in Arizona outperformed FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona, BetMGM Sportsbook Arizona, and Caesars Sportsbook Arizona in April by generating $155.945 million in revenue.

Afterward, the rankings were as follows: Barstool Sportsbook with $16.807 million, WynnBET Arizona with $9.940 million, Rush Street Interactive with $6.220 million, SuperBook Sports with $1.936 million, Betfred with $1.772 million, and Desert Diamond Mobile with $1.090 million.

DraftKings Sportsbook has surpassed all 18 licensed sports betting operators in Arizona since going live on September 9th, with a total of $1.23 billion in wagers.

FanDuel Sportsbook Arizona reached a milestone in April by becoming the second operator in the state to exceed $1 billion in wagers, with a total handle of $1.042 billion since September. The sportsbook also achieved over $100 million in wagers for the seventh month in a row.
