Who is Arizona Rooting for in Men’s Final Four?
Fact Checked by Young Ruth

It has been 23 years since a team from Arizona participated in the men’s Final Four, but residents of the Grand Canyon State will be eagerly watching this year’s national semifinal.

The event is set to occur at Glendale’s State Farm Stadium for only the second time ever. With thousands of basketball fans descending on the Valley this week, it is crucial to keep an eye on the weekend’s games. While the Wildcats, Sun Devils, Antelopes, and Lumberjacks will be observing from afar, the Final Four is anticipated to increase Arizona sports betting.

Alabama, North Carolina State, Purdue, and UConn all have ties to the 48th State. The Crimson Tide are vying for their inaugural title, while N.C. State is looking to secure their first championship in over three decades. Purdue is aiming to capture their first title since their Premo-Porretta championship win in 1932.

We used Google Trends search interest scores to examine the search volume of Arizona residents for the four teams left in the NCAA Men’s March Madness tournament. The scores were rated from 1 to 100 between March 18 and April 1.

For which team is Arizona rooting?

Arizonans have shown the highest level of support for the Boilermakers this year, with a score of 27 on Google Trends search volume totals. This surpasses the defending champs from Storrs, who have a score of 20.

The bond between Arizona and UConn is clear in the strong brotherly connection between UConn coach Dan Hurley and ASU’s Bobby Hurley. Yet, the link between the state and Purdue is still uncertain.

Earlier this year, Purdue emerged victorious over the Arizona Wildcats with a score of 92-84 in Indianapolis. Despite this matchup being one of the rare instances connecting the state with the team from West Lafayette, Arizona also claimed a victory over Alabama in Phoenix, triumphing with a score of 87-74.

FanDuel Arizona has the Huskies as the top pick to win on Saturday at -185, followed by Purdue at +190. Alabama is at +1300 and N.C. State is at +2000.
