Fact Checked by Young Ruth

In March, the burgeoning sports betting market in Arizona hit a significant milestone, with a total of $690.979 million in bets and $18.668 million in gross wagering receipts.

The Arizona Department of Gaming reported a $491.6 million figure in February, which represents a 40.5% increase compared to the previous figure shown.

The total in the following month was nearly triple the $6.8 million from February, thanks to the NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournaments, as well as the strong performance of the Arizona Wildcats in both events.

Arizona experienced a notable rise in sports betting tax revenue in March, bringing in a total of $1.707 million, compared to the $670,685 collected in February.

The state handle record was previously set at $563.7 million in January.

In a recent press release from the department, Ted Vogt, the director of the ADG, commented that the March figures suggest a hopeful outlook for the future of sports betting in the state.

Vogt described March as an exciting month for event betting in Arizona, noting that popular sporting events like NCAA’s March Madness helped set a new record for single-month event betting. Vogt is optimistic about the future of the industry as Arizona approaches its one-year anniversary of legal event betting.
