What are the main highlights of Arizona’s new sports betting legislation?

What Are Key Points In Arizona’s New Sports Gaming Law?

This week, Arizona unveiled the initial set of regulations for sports betting, outlining key points from the agreement signed by Governor Doug Ducey and tribal leaders on April 15th. Let’s take a closer look at some of the important details.

Arizona is preparing to launch expanded gaming, which will include sports betting apps and daily fantasy sports contests. The goal is to have everything up and running in time for the start of the NFL season, allowing fans to bet on the season opener between the Dallas Cowboys and the defending Super Bowl champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, on Thursday, Sept. 9.

The Arizona Cardinals are set to begin their 2021 season in three days, facing off against Tennessee on Sept. 12th.

Who is eligible to obtain a license?

The new law allows for a total of 20 Arizona sports betting licenses, with half reserved for gaming tribes and the other half possibly going to Arizona professional sports teams and events.

The Cardinals, Diamondbacks, Suns, and Phoenix Coyotes have the chance to welcome retail sportsbooks at or near their stadiums or arenas. Although the sports teams will not be directly operating the sportsbooks, they can collaborate with online platforms like BetMGM Arizona, DraftKings Arizona, or FanDuel Arizona to provide betting options across the state.

This week, the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) will provide detailed information about licensing procedures and pricing.
