Arizona sports betting experienced a decline in July but saw an increase in revenue.
During July, the sports betting market in Arizona saw a rapid transformation with $290.5 million in bets, marking a decline from the previous month. Nonetheless, there was a notable rise in revenue compared to June 2022.
Although the July handle was 8.9% lower than June’s $318.8 million, operators in Arizona experienced a boost in revenue. Adjusted gross event wagering receipts reached nearly $15 million in July, a substantial 95.1% increase from the $7.68 million generated in June.
The state saw a positive boost in revenue, as tax collections in July approached $1.5 million, marking a substantial 95.1% increase from June’s $766,831, according to the Arizona Department of Gaming.
Mobile sports betting is the leading force in Arizona.
Although Arizona does have retail sportsbooks, the vast majority of sports betting in the state is conducted via mobile betting on Arizona sportsbook apps, making up over 99% of the total handle at $288.26 million.
The top sportsbooks in Arizona are well-known national brands.
In July, FanDuel Arizona was the top performer in sports wagering with a handle of nearly $92.4 million, closely followed by DraftKings Arizona at almost $90.2 million. BetMGM Arizona secured the third spot with a handle of nearly $53.58 million, followed by Caesars Sportsbook AZ at $27.7 million, and Penn Sports (Barstool) AZ with just over $9.1 million.
Arizona is currently ranked fifth in the nation for July revenue among reported jurisdictions, with a handle of $290 million. The state’s sports betting industry began at the start of the 2021 NFL season and there has been a significant interest in betting on the Arizona Cardinals in the Grand Canyon State.

This discrepancy is also evident in the odds for the Cardinals to win the NFC and the Super Bowl, highlighting the difference in sentiment between local and national bettors.
In July, the states with the highest sports betting handles were: New York at $800.75 million, New Jersey at $531.89 million, Nevada at $419.15 million, and Pennsylvania at $336.51 million. Illinois, which typically ranks in the top four, has not yet reported its July figures.
